Women's Body Found Mummified in Apartment 35 Years Later

ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) -- A woman's body was found mummified in her bed when tenants broke into an apartment in Croatia. Nobody had seen anyone using the apartment for some time, so the tenants tried to claim the apartment for their own use. To their suprise, they found a mummified body of the owner of the tenant, who died sometime in 1973.

You saw that right, 1973!! How could anybody go that long without being missed by someone? What about the neighbors? How were the bills being paid for the apartment?

Well it seems that the mummified owner was talking about taking a trip abroad right before she went missing, so the neighbors all thought she was out of the country. The apartment was owned at the time by the communist government and probably is still owned by them. The windows of the room were open, which might have diminished the smell of the decomposing body.

I saw this a few months ago and finally got around to posting this wacky news. CNN reported on November 27, 2006 from the business site that Ailin Graef, a former school teacher, created a Second Life game character who has become a real-estate tycoon in the virtual world. The character's make-believe holdings can be legally converted to genuine US currency. The wacky part of this... the holdings are now worth over $1 million US dollars once converted. Second Life is an online role playing game similiar to simcity where characters buy and sell with fake money called Linden dollars. There are real companies that convert this fake money for real money.

So now when your kids want to play video games, get them hooked on Second Life so that they can become the next millionaire.

Mummified Body Found from Hurricane Katrina

Beaumont, Texas --- Over 18 months since hurricane Katrina, and the death toll has increased by one when a mummified body of a 51 year old man was found. The interesting part of this story is that the man was found fully clothed lying on his bed. How could this man's body go so long without being found? To make the story more interesting, the man had relatives that lived within miles of his house. It is surely amazing to know that your could die and not be missed for 18 months.

Great Ape Triggers Fire Alarm for Fun

Des Moines, Iowa --- Panbanisha, a bonobos from the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, likes to trigger the fire alarm when she doesn't get her way. She learned the trick after watching a welder trigger the alarm a few months back.

The latest episode was performed because Panbanisha was upset with staff for not allowing her to go outside. It is reported that one of the staff members explained the danger of these actions to Panbabisha and that she promised not to do again. Bonobos are the most human like of apes and have incredible language skills. BUT, I guess that doesn't mean that apes don't lie.

Hero Dog Dies Trying to Save Cat

Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin --- A incredible dog saved his disabled owner from a house file that the cat started by accidently knocking over a candle that ignited fake plants on the coffee table. The owner was unable to distinquish the flames immediately because of the fact that she fell off the couch and couldn't reach the fire or her artificial leg. Jesse, the 13 year old dog, brought the owner the phone and then her artificial leg. As the owner and the dog were heading outside to safety, the dog heard the cat upstairs still in the house. Jesse raced back into the house to try to bring the cat to safety, but perished in the fire.

Women Expels Lightning Out Her Butt

Zadar, Croatia --- While leaning over a sink to rinse her mouth of toothpaste from the tap, a woman was struck in the mouth by a bolt of lightning. Since she was wearing rubber bathroom slippers, the surge of electricity could not "earth" through here feet, but instead shot out her butt and "earthed" through a damp shower curtain that was barely touching her.

The really wacky part of this story is that the shower curtain probably saved her life. Experts emphasized how she would have been killed if the lightning would have "earthed" through her feet as it most commonly will. The lady spent only 24 hours in the hospital, probably laying on her stomach.

Angry Woman Uses Dead Chihuahua as Weapon

St. Peters, Missouri --- A woman was told by a veterinarian that the new Chihuahua puppy that she had just purchased was only 4 weeks old and that it needed to be with its mother for a few more weeks. On the way to the breeder, the puppy died. This angered the woman, who confronted the breeder at his home. During the arguement, the woman used the dead puppy as a weapon on the breeder. The woman was charge with misdemeanor assault charges and felony burgary.

Case of Mistaken Identity Brings Sadness and Joy

Indianapolis --- For five weeks Whitney Cerak laid in the hospital surrounded by a family standing by her in a time of need. Whitney was the soul survivor of an accident that claimed 5 other Taylor University students. The problem... The family was not hers. The coroner mistakenly identified Whitney as Laura VanRyn, whose family was their for her day and night.

In a different town, Whitney's family had been grieving those five weeks, which included a closed casket funeral attended by 1400 people.

Finally, after too many situations where the presumed Laura would say things that made no sense to the family, the VanRyn's finally figured out the mistake.

Flushing Money Down the Toilet?

Berlin, Germany --- A 64 year old retired man in Berlin "was of the opinion" that his 60,000 old mark bank notes (about $36,000 USD) were worthless due to the conversion to euros a few years back. Instead of going to a bank to verify his assumption, he decided to flush them down his toilet. Probably no one would have even known about his stupidity if it wasn't for the fact that his excessive flushing backed up pipes in the city. An employee for the company responsible for cleaning the clog pulled bundles of soagy notes from the pipe.

The money was returned to the gentleman and he was escort be local authorities to a bank to deposit the money.

London, England --- A upmarket London department store called Selfridges today unveiled the new marketing gimic... the McDonald Sandwich. What makes this sandwich a gimic? It probably has to do with the price. For a measly $148, you get a sandwich made with 24-hour fermented sourdough bread spread with a foie gras-flavored mayonnaise, Wagyu beef flown in flesh from Japan and comes from cows that are massaged and fed on beer, Brie de Meaux cheese, English cherry tomatoes and rocket, and roasted peppers.

Green Lights All The Time

Longmont, Colorado --- For two years, Jason Niccum of Longmont Colorado has had help getting to work on time. He bought a device, called an Opticon, on ebay for $100 that has helped him change traffic lights to green, dropping his travel time to work.

City traffic engineers started to notice specific traffic lights in the town where unexpectedly changing on most mornings during rush hour traffic. Upon further review of the traffic video, the engineers noticed the same white Ford pickup truck going through the lights.

On March 29th, police stopped Niccum and issued a citation for tampering with traffic lights. They also confiscated the wireless device.

Man Divorces Wife in Sleep

New Delhi, India --- A man unconsciously divorced his wife when he spoke the word "talaq" three times in his sleep. Islamic leaders confirmed that the man divorced his wife under the Islamic procedure called "triple talaq". The man and women were married for 11 years and had children.

The man and wife can get remarried, but only after 100 days. Also, the woman needs to spend a night in bed with another man and be divorced by him also.

The couple is fighting the ruling of the local leaders.

Death by Flying Sizzling Shrimp?

Mineloa, NY --- A lawsuit has been filed in New York by a women who says that her husband died due to a chain reaction of events that started when a Benihana chef flung a grilled shrimp in the direction of her husband. The chef was trying to imitate the scene from Jackie Chan's movie "Mr. Nice Guy" where a chef tosses a shrimp into the customer's mouth. This emulation has become very popular in Benihana's restruarants since the movie aired.

Jerry Colaitis injured his neck when trying to avoid the shrimp. He eventually underwent two spinal surgeries, contracted a bad infection and died. The wife's lawyer contends that the "flying piece of hot grilled shrimp... set into motion an unbroken chain of interrelated events" that led to Mr. Colaitis's death 10 months later. Mrs Colaitis is suing for $16 million, "mostly for pain and suffering and the loss of Mr. Colaitis's potential earnings.

What I find funny is the other factors that could have attributed to the death... Frequent Trips to Foreign Countries after Benihana meal, handled spoiled furs, suffered from gout, blood poisoning or septicemia. Seems like the flying shrimp was the only cause to gain Mrs. Colaitis some financial gain.

Teen Shot for Walking on Neighbor's Lawn

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) --- A 66 year old man shot a 15 year old boy for walking on his property. As the boy, Larry Mugrave, crossed into his yard, Charles Martin shot him twice with his shotgun. Martin was known in the neighborhood as one of those people who was obsessed with the condition of his lawn and the imaginary boundry lines between properties.

Pigeons with Backpacks

London, England --- In order to study pollution, 20 pigeons will be fitted with tiny backpacks that include a GPS satellite tracking receiver, air pollution sensors, and a basic mobile phone. The mobile phone will transmit text messages about the air quality to a special pigeon blog. The pigeons will also be fitted with a tiny camera around their necks to send aerial images.

The pigeons will take flight August 5, 2006 at the inter-Society for Electronic Arts' annual symposium in San Jose.

Baby Found Floating in Lake

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil --- A group of people passing by a lake thought they heard a sound that resembled a cat coming from a plastic bag in a lake floating a few feet from the shore. Upon retrieving the bag and ripping it open, they were shocked to find that the sound came from a 2 month old baby girl. The baby was laying on top of a small wooden board in the bag which allowed it to float. The baby was rushed to the hospital where it was given a clean bill of health.

The mother was arrested for attempted murder. To her defense, she claims that she gave her baby to some people who will walking by the lake and told them she couldn't support the baby. She denies placing the baby into the lake.

Pet Parrot Divulges Secret Affair

London, England --- A man learned about his girlfriend's affair when his pet parrot, Ziggy, started squawking "I love you, Gary". The pet's owner, Chris Taylor, was sitting with his girlfriend Suzy Collins when he realized that she was having an affair. Ziggy would also mimic "Hiya Gary" whenever the phone would ring.

Chris and Suzy are no longer a couple, but the saddest split-up occurred when Chris had to give up Ziggy. It seems that Ziggy didn't want to stop calling Gary's name.
